This set is comprised of a series of snapshots of our lives - particularly of times of struggle that our peers may have faced growing up, including drugs, harassment, heartbreak, loneliness and bullying. However, at the end of this piece, it's more about breaking out of the vicious cycle of always being a victim, and transforming into something more, something better.

This set was our first performance with our new 2012-2013 company, presented for campus comedy group Off-Off Campus's post-show afterglow. We're doing a new thing this year and combining our choreography and freestyle sets for maximum show potential!

"Revival" 2012 | A Dancer's Daydream

_This piece is a window into a hip-hop dancer's daydream. Starting off in present-day downtown Chicago, a dancer suddenly finds himself transported back to the 1950's jazz scene. Overwhelmed by all the fun and sexiness the decade has to offer, he soon wakes up back in the present and reflects on his daydream, ending in a celebration that draws inspiration from past generations of dance styles as well as the present.

Hip-hop dance in its original form was improvisational rather than choreographed. PhiNix believes in the importance of remaining true to the artform's origins by training its dancers in freestyle abilities and techniques. This performance showcases the talented improvisational dance abilities of some select members of the PhiNix Freestyle Crew.
